If you have ever flown an iFlight Protek60 with a full-sized camera, you too have probably thought: "Hey, how would this thing fly without all that extra weight?" Well, here it is.

The Build Story

I purchased the parts at the end of 2024, and built it in early 2025. I couldn't bring myself to just strip down a fully functional, ready-to-fly Protek60, and I definitely didn't want to purchase the expensive full frame kit just to use four pieces of it.

Luckily, the core frame itself is just two pieces of carbon plates and standoffs. I didn't even need the aluminum camera cage. Because this frame design has no separate arm pieces and no mid-plate, I was able to just buy the replacement top and bottom plates individually for around $50–$60 each. The camera cage parts were only $15.

Specs & Tuning

Video: O3

Flight controller: Radix 2 HD

ESC: iFlight Blitz 80a 4-in-1(not the test firmware)

Motors: IFlight 3110 1600kv

Props: 6042-3 Gemfan flash

Battery: Lumenier 4500mah 6s

Modified the top plate to be able to top mount the battery (took an angle ginder to it)

Capacitor mount holding dual Panasonic 50v 1000uf capacitors

Tuning: Using the exact same filters and tune as the original Protek60.

Ducts: Custom 3D-printed half-ducts made from PLA. They weigh roughly 50g each, adding about 200g total to the build.

It was a straightforward, easy build, and I had fun putting it together. It flies on rails to an orchestra.
