Doug has been playing with some old and expensive LEDs and drivers, since i have played with newer cheap lights off ebay quite a bit i thought i would share some of what i find out from playing on the bench (they make great work lights)
Test results
Run at half brightness
Mosfet gets a bit to hot to run without a heatsink, led driver efficency was 50w in 45w out from the driver so 90% of 12v driving a 30v led chip at half brightness.
measured light output with no reflector
1200LUX at 500mm
77000LUX at 200mm

$5 A mosfet board with opto isolated inputs:
the gate drive voltage is from the same same supply as the output so they should run less in the linear region of switching and run cooler, we will wait and see in the next video when my board turns up.
