No more death wobble!!!
After my first year with this truck, it developed the notorious "death wobble" where the wheels bounce in and out at high speed after hitting a trigger bump. It's a creepy feeling and probably added many miles of wear to the ball joints.
Here is the list from my invoice for everything that I bought from the Dodge dealership:
52122362AH - SOPW1 - STEERING-S (this is the main kit)
68039930AA - 4047 - ARM-PITMAN
5154661AB - 7084B - *DAMPER-ST
6505623AA - 3051C - NUT-HEX LO (this is the nut to fasten the new linkage to the pitman arm, but I really needed 3 more of these: 2 for the ends and 1 for the stabilizer. I decided to use the old nuts with thread locker, but really should have had new lock nuts.)
Total cost at "Power Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge" in Phoenix, Arizona = $533.17.
I also added an aftermarket steering gearbox pinion bearing stabilizer which was about $130. I probably didn't need it, but I feel better knowing that the gearbox has better stability.
After installing this list of parts, I had my truck professionally aligned. The alignment technician showed me that my upper ball joints have about 1/10th of a millimeter of play which will eventually wear out the new ball joints. I wonder if I'll even still own the truck when that happens...?!?
