Another one in the books. And a good one!
At the start of this year, I told myself I wasn't going to mess with bees. I was too busy with the house. I didn't even plan to harvest honey. But when I popped a few lids in mid May and saw honey bound hives and white was I had too! I tossed on some supers and crossed my fingers.
Per tradition, July 4th weekend we pulled the supers. I ended up with what I believe is my best harvest ever!
Now I don't mean to brag. This is "bad" beekeeping to put forth such minimal effort. But it does lend a bit to the idea that bees can really take care of themselves, and they don't need us pampering them to survive. In an ideal scenario, perhaps I can continue my minimalist approach and keep on getting solid yields!
At ~600 lbs of honey, it takes me all year to sell out, but I manage to every year. Here's to the next year and hopes of another good harvest!
