On Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 units responded to a two-alarm garden apartment fire on Hewitt Avenue in Aspen Hill, Maryland. Units arrived to find significant fire throughout a corner apartment, with extension to the soffit and attic. A precautionary 2nd alarm was sounded by command. The fire alarm was not activated prior to fire department arrival and several residents were removed from their apartments. The fire was quickly knocked from the main stairwell. Wheaton Battalion Chief Brett Russell had Division Three command responsibilities while Rescue Squad 742 performed a search of the entire structure and secured utilities. The fire was contained to a single apartment and no injuries were reported.
