5. TSM, 2016 Spring
In 2016 Spring, TSM had their worst regular season result ever. With Yellowstar joining the team as support and Doublelift becoming the new ADC, the roster took a while to come together. After a decent start, TSM dropped their final 3 games of the split to finish sixth at 9-9. But in the playoffs they found their stride. They shook off Cloud9 in 4 games before upsetting the highly hyped Immortals in a clean 3-0 sweep. Meeting up against rivals CLG in the finals. TSM made it all the way to game 5, but came up just short.
4. UoL 2015 Spring
In 2015 Spring, the Unicorns of Love made their LCS debut. Already with a lot of hype due to their unique style of play and champion picks, UoL made an early splash with several exciting LCS games. However, their first regular season split had mixed results as they finished with an even 9-9 record with low playoff expectations. But with the Unicorns, you never knew what to expect. First, they handled Gambit in a 3-1 series before knocking down #1 seed SK Gaming in a crazy 5 game series. In their rookie split, UoL made it all the way to the finals and came incredibly close to another upset against Fnatic in the finals. Second ain’t bad for your first ever split.
3. GGU 2013 Spring
Good Game University’s start to the 2013 Spring Split was an absolute disaster. They had a 7 game losing streak and started the split 2-12. When Daydreamin joined the roster, everything seemed to click, as they went 9-5 down the stretch to secure the sixth playoff spot. Even with a strong finish, no one gave GGU much of a chance. Nonetheless, GGU got to the finals after winning three-game sets against Dignitas and Curse. Once again they were incredibly heavy underdogs to TSM but managed to force a game 5.
2. AHQ esports, 2015 Spring
In 2015, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao got an exclusive league, the LMS. Ahq esports stomped their way through qualifiers to join the league. In the round robin stage, AHQ had a relatively strong showing going 13-8, but that was only good enough for a fourth place finish. In the gauntlet style playoffs, ahq had the hardest road to the championship. Yet, they swept their way to the championship match as HKE and TPA were no match. In the finals, the Flashwolves were the favourites as they finished the round robin at 19-2. However, AHQ seemed destined to hoist the trophy as it only took 4 games to conquer Flash Wolves.
1. LGD, 2015 Summer
None of the previous playoff runs hold up to what LGD accomplished in 2015 Summer. In the regular season, LPL had a best of two system and LGD finished with a game score 24-20. Only winning 6 sets, LGD finished in fifth and would have to win four playoff rounds in order to win the split. Every opponent they would face had a 1-3 record against them in the regular season. The playoffs were a different beast as LGD took down Vici and Snake 3-1 before sweeping the top seeded EDG in the semi-finals. Their toughest opponent was their final boss in Qiao Gu Reapers but at the end it was LGD who won game 5.
