In this video we talk about the latest update on the Tesla Model 3. Elon Musk has been teasing about having a Part 2 Release Event for the Tesla Model 3. We were expecting these new details for the end of Feb. But Elon Musk decided to do it the Elon Musk style and just unload everything on Twitter.
So it was announced that the 1st of April 2016 Tesla will be taking orders for the Model 3 online, but people could also physically go to Tesla Shops and pay there and they would get in line before the people who ordered online.
So not expecting anything me and my dad and my colleagues went to the Tesla Store on the 31st of March and ordered 5 Model 3s. When I saw how big the line was I was hoping that the US would not order so many as the US would get their cars first and only then do the deliveries start in the EU. But we all know how that went.
Then the release event happened and actually 400 000 people preordered the car which has never happened in history before. But on the release event not all the details were final or clear.
On the video there was no heads up display and it wasn't clear if that was the final version or not. So Elon Musk made it clear that there will be a part 2 of the release event.
So then when all the tweets came it became clear that this was it. So here are the things that we found out in the twitter storm:
The Tesla model 3 is a cheaper version of the Model S with less range, acceleration and less features. It will still have autonomous driving, and it will still be awesome.
First they will start with single engine deliveries and in about 6-9 months they will start with dual motor deliveries. This is to allow for the production ramp so they start with simpler versions.
The Max battery size will be 75 KWH with current battery density. This is peace thats what the shorter wheel base allows.
We also got to know that the people how couldn't take deliveries as they were waiting for the dual engines will be first in line for these when they eventually come on the Model 3.
We also found out that the car will be about to have a roof rack and you can fit a cooler in the back.
And last but not least we found out about the Model 3 heads up display:
So Elon Musk wrote that as the car will be autonomous there is no need to look so often on the dashboard. How often do you look at the dash board of a taxi when you are being driven. Good point actually.
So it will still have a display on the side but not a heads up display.
