Hong Kong-based actor Daniel Wu recalled how he portrayed the role of Gul'dan in the 2016 U.S. fantasy film Warcraft in an interview with China Central Television in Beijing on Wednesday.
Wu said that he was seeking a breakthrough role to challenge being typecast as a handsome male on the big screen.
"When I heard that Gul'dan was the ugliest and oldest of those orcs, I laughed and said 'hey, this role is a good one'," Wu said.
"I read a lot of books on orcs' history. Sometime I was like 'who is this character' when I read the screenplay, and I asked my wife, and she told me about the characters, then I was like 'ah, OK, I get it'," Wu said.
He said he was trained for weeks on how to act exactly like the orcs in the movie.
"Gul'dan doesn't stand straight, he always bends over like this. I underwent several weeks of training on how he stands up and walks, and how he drinks water and holds things in hands. I portrayed the role in a way that was completely different from previous ways," Wu said.
