Africa is historically rich in music. With various features of traditional and epic sounds coming from diverse communities within this awesome continent, one cannot but marvel at the wonders of creativity, adherence to tradition, as well as the depth of spirituality in the African continent. This soundtrack has been composed, arranged and orchestrated by Kayode Ibiayo to depict just a snippet of what an african music sounds like. This soundtrack was commissioned by Marijke Benade and has been used for Cool Capital project as background music for the poetry “Ode to Pretoria”. About The Composer: Kayode Ibiayo
Kayode Ibiayo is the founder of Avant-garde Music Concept, based in both Lagos and Pretoria.
Being a pursuer of excellence in his field, he has to his name, certificates in various local and international graded examinations. A multi-instrumentalist with a major in Piano, he possesses certificates with distinctions in Piano grades one to seven, and has never been short of distinctions on his instrument up till date.
Sponsored by the MTN Foundation, he is an alumnus of the prestigious Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) School of music, where he received the ‘Ayo Bankole Award for Best Composition Student’ in 2010 upon his diploma graduation.
In recognition of his academic excellence, Kayode received both undergraduate and senior undergraduate (funding) achievement awards from the University of Pretoria in 2014 and 2015. This led to his induction as a proud member of The Golden Key International Honour Society (GKIHS) in 2015.
As an active music director and producer for more than ten years, Kayode has been involved in building and imparting of music excellence in church choirs as well as in individuals.
He has composed over 48 sheet music works in both instrumental and vocal categories and his works have been performed both home and abroad.
His compositions and arrangements include the ‘MUSON School Anthem’ and ‘Yhello Fantasy’ conducted by Kayode and premiered at the MTNF scholars’ graduation ceremony in 2010. The MUSON choir premiered 'Odun Ayabo' in 2014 and Sir Emeka Nwokedi (Igwe) conducted it. Conducted by Sir Emeka Nwokedi, Lagos City Choral premiered 'Ayo' with repeated public performances including Germany in 2015.
Kayode Ibiayo is a music degree graduate and a professional who has a passion for excellence.
