Not to be confused with the Algarve City, the Lagoa de Albufeira beach is located in the municipality of Sesimbra, in the parish of Castelo (Sesimbra).
The lagoon is fed by the freshwater streams of the Aposticha, Blacksmithing and Aiana, and the seawater when the dunes are officially opened in the spring. It consists of three basins: the Great, the small and the Estacada. With 15 meters maximum depth, the Lagoa de Albufeira is considered the deepest of Portugal.
It integrates since 1987, the National Ecological Reserve, with an area of special protection for birds. It has excellent conditions for birdwatching and sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and canoeing. The beach is popular for surfing and bodyboarding.
