I got out here at 5:10 AM as the train is
due in Topeka at 5:20...gives me time to position myself. Amtrak's site was down until 6 AM, and I didn't know if they were ontime. I waited till after 7. So...I drove to Topeka, and the Trainmaster told me that there's a detour out West somewhere, and they're being routed around A LOT of freight traffic. He said the train would be in the station in approx. 15 min. I drove the 15 miles back out to my "spot," and
when I got there, the signal was already yellow. I got a move on, and made it a little over 1/4 mi. East of the crossing, before the signal turned red. Excuse the "huffing and puffing" noise on the video. The engineer was kind enough to stay on the horn for over 1/4 mile past the crossing so that you could enjoy the beautiful K5LA's music! Thanks!
