A quick look at the basics of overclocking the standard Asrock Z68 Pro3 motherboard with a Sandy Bridge CPU. The purpose of this video is not to achieve ultimate clock speeds, but rather to achieve a stable system with more than a simple clock multiplyer change.
Here are a few BSOD errors relating to overclocking that may help:
0x124 = Indicates you should add or remove vcore voltage
0x101 = Probably insufficient vcore. Add a little more
0x50= RAM Frequency/timings. A slight increase of DDR3 Voltage or QPI/VTT may help
0x1E = You probably need to add more vcore
0x3B = You probably need to add more vcore
0xD1 = You probably need to increase QPI/VTT voltage
0x9C = QPI/VTT or vcore issue.
0X109 = You probably need to add more DDR3 voltage
0x0A = QPI/VTT voltage may need increasing.
Be careful not add too much vcore. Overclocking to a stage where you need 1.40v+ is likely to degrade the life of your CPU.
If you receive a different BSOD, you may want to double check that your SATA settings (IDE/ AHCI/ RAID) are correct.
Finally, if your Multiplyer is reporting as 16X in Windows, this can have two reasons:
1) The CPU could be idle. If the CPU is not under load, it is completely normal for the CPU to show 16X with the settings used in this tutorial. The multipluer should go up when under load.
2) The second possibility is that your CPU is getting too hot. Usual symptoms of this are that the multiplyer keeps bouncing around when under full load. Check your CPU temps with a program like RealTemp ( http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ ). Is your CPU getting too hot? You really should have less than 70 degrees at all times.
