"Astrophe" is a word invented by http://www.dictionaryofobscuresorrows.com/ which is defined as the fear of being stuck on earth.

Being born back in 1997, I was taken by surprise, realizing that I was no longer a child.
It felt like just the other day that I was jumping from couch to couch to avoid the lava, or habing to cross the ocean (my pool) to save the princess on the other side. Trying my best to escape this state of denial, I happily took up the offer to play an astronaut in Jess Huang's short film, 'Astrophe'. Throughout our days of filming, I got back in touch with my inner-child and my imagination. Having to see the world for the first time, I was truly taken aback by all the things I took for granted: the sunsets, the moss upon the trees and even the way the ocean shifted to different shades of blue. "Astrophe" may be defined as the fear of being stuck on Earth, however after being exposed to everything again for the first time, the only fear I have would be ever having to leave this place.

The concept of having the viewer formulate their own interpretations of the story was extremely important during the making of this film, hence, there is no incorrect interpretation of it.
That being said, this is my interpretation:
As children, we are able to have and believe in dreams that goo over our horizons, but as we grow older we realize that these dreams are often easier said than done, so we give up and move on. The astronaut on the other hand explores and discovers, although running into small 'obstacles' along the way he still carries on, only to wake from his 'dream' to which he responds to by living it again and again and never giving up on it.
