Hello!
I saved a baby mocking bird from some cats!
I found it at night. I moistened dry cat food. And was able to give it some clean water through a dropper. Guessing that it may have been dehydrated due to shock. It lived through the night. Its pretty warm here now. So the rags that I put in the bottom of a box inside our spare bedroom. Was sufficient to keep the fledgling alive. I'm guessing that the bird is approximately 3 weeks old. I then made a second open air shelter for the bird. Because I was trying to reintegrate it to its mother. I placed the basket up in a tree near the location where it was rescued. and though its mother did come back. All she did was made a lot of noise and went crazy all day until dusk. Never feeding or touching the baby bird. Leaving me to climb up the tree every 2 hours to feed and hydrate the baby bird! I also use the juice that surrounds the moistened cat food.By adding a little extra water. It makes a protein rich gravy that can be fed to the baby bird through a dropper. LOL! Today is day 3. The baby is growing. During the day i keep it close to an open window. I want it exposed to its language from the outside birds , and its mother. We will see how this goes. Everyone has different opinions on the best way to keep a baby wild bird alive. But don't be discouraged if you try and the bird dies. Often a baby bird that has been found outside the nest before its time was rejected or injured. But still. Its great to exercise our human kindness as often as possible. ;]
