Fire Damage on Highway 71 from Smithville to Bastrop, Texas 9-10-11. This is a westbound drive.
Clyde Clardy and I took a ride down 71 to Smithville and back to Bastrop and saw the devastating damage along the highway. Many structures and homes / businesses are completely burned to the ground and gone. The Loblolly Pine Trees that makes Bastrop so famous have about all been burned beyond coming back. This area is still very dangerous and will be for some time as the trees will be falling down if not bulldozed. Bastrop's devastation is heartbreaking. Seeing it in person really makes the widespread damage hit home.
