Crashplan has announced they will discontinue their home product in October 2018. We both use Crashplan currently, so needed to find the best totally free (non-cloud based) alternatives.

Our conclusion is that if you run a NAS drive and don't want to run a server PC, Veeam is clean, simple and works well. If you run a server and want something a bit more flexible, Urbackup is a great contender.
