Had 2 crashes in a week, one from a 100 ft when a "big" gust of wind blow it off, (the day went from a perfectly calm day to a windy day when I was flying) tried to get it to return, but it inverted when given full return control input, and the second at low level maneuvering flight test. Had to do a factory reset, and now all the settings need to be completely new, can't use any of the old setup, for some reason all the settings are scaled up 5x? Has nothing to do with stick scaling. this is a concept vehicle, it may never be used for the intent to discover Black Swift nest sites. The 100 ft crash cost me 2 yard sticks and 1 propeller blade, about $3 total, plus a trip to the hardware store. 2nd crash only cost me two bamboo stilts(skewers). No wires came loose, even if one motor fails, in a hexacopter configuration, it is still suppose to be able to be flyable, I have not test flown it with a motor down yet.
I'm replacing the KK2 board with Naze32, it'll take some time to get that going. With 6 motors, there will be no servo gimbal, it's only supported with 4 motors.
the Naze32 project has not been going very well, been through 2 boards already and I haven't even put it on the craft. First one was bricked, even though they say it is impossible to brick it by using LibrePilot instead of CleanFlight. The second board the USB port popped off as I tried to connect it for the first time. Now I have a third, wondering how that is going to go. Been procrastinating. Benifits of Naze32 is micro-barometer for altitude hold, sonar for anti-collision, and GPS for return home if a wicked breeze picks up, not having to struggle with manual controls trying to do that in turbulence. Considering scrapping the project.
