Giant scale SPAD flight and photos at the Bomber Field USA Warbird Meet 6/1/2013.
This is a model of the latest 1917 French SPAD S.XIII powered by a HIspano-Suiza water cooled V-8 engine producing 220 HP. Armament was two Vickers machine guns with 400rounds each and flown by the US Army Service Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker. The SPAD was faster than the British Sopwith Camel and German Fokker D.VIII but maneuverability was relatively poor and hard to control at low speeds and needing to land with power on.
