A peak detector is a useful circuit in power conversion (AC-DC and DC-DC). It uses a diode to permit a capacitor to store and hold a peak voltage. Analyzing the circuit requires the method of assumed states, and basic 1st-order circuit analysis. An exact (or even approximate) numerical solution is quite challenging, so in this example we simply set up the equations and describe the gist of the circuit behavior.
