On January 10, 2015, the eastbound "California Zephyr" runs on the left track through Agency, Iowa a bit slower than usual. The engineer of Amtrak #6 reported earlier that their lead unit was not working. The second locomotive, now doing all the work, had a broken fuel gauge so he requested that it be refueled in Galesburg, Illinois. That request will be granted.
Amtrak recently started to receive its order of new Viewliner II baggage cars: http://blog.amtrak.com/2014/12/amtrakforward/. In the coming months, these new cars will replace the heritage baggage cars that Amtrak inherited from the railroads when they took over passenger operations in 1971. Today, #6 has the baggage car AMTK 1750. It started life as the coach ATSF 2843. It was built by the Budd Company in 1953 for the Santa Fe Railway. Amtrak had it converted from a coach to a baggage car.
