Do not attempt to duplicate this experiment unless you know what you are doing! Capacitance and High Voltage can kill you. Proceed at your own risk.
This is an example of how capacitance can lower the amp "draw" in an Induction motor. Earlier testing determined that about 200 to 210 uf capacitance was about the closest to resonance possible for this motor. In this example we used 205 uf at 370 volt capacity.
Load test:
Connecting by V-belt and pulley, a 60 lb. flywheel which in turn by a second V-belt & pully to an air compressor from a diesel truck.
We used a strobe RPM meter to determine full RPM of the flywheel. From start to full RPM's was 5 seconds time under this extreme load. Amp draw was recorded at 10.90 (1308 Watts)
Then we brought it to a complete stop, added 207 uf capacitance. From start to full RPM's with the same load was less than 3 seconds. Recorded AMP draw was 1.58 Amp (189.6 watts) Further testing also showed that with capacitance the motor ran cooler than without it.
Danger: Capacitors store electrical energy! Do not attempt any aspect of this experiment unless/until you fully understand the electrical potential danger associated with it, and then do so at your own risk. Capacitors and high voltage can be lethal Don't be stupid.
