Here is my latest multirotor experiment: a tricopter with an additional (detachable) rotor to provide dedicated forward thrust. Not that angling the craft isn't effective at providing directional thrust, I just love to explore novel possibilities. Here I added an additional motor (DT750) to the rear, just to see how the standard flight control program would handle it. Turns out, it works just fine, and I was even able to pull off a full roll under thruster power--though I crashed on a second attempt. I still need to dial in the Rattitude mode settings better, as the controls were still a bit touchy.
The crash itself validated the breakpoints in my tricopter's crash design, as everything that broke did so as expected, and none of the components or the frame was damaged--just the zipties. All around, a successful experiment!
