Changing Minds an Auckland (NZ) based Mental Wellbeing, and Addictions advocacy, information, and education service, held an art exhibition with contributions from five artists across New Zealand on the theme of mental health, addictions and homelessness. Di Tocker, Fraser Hoffe, Sarah Mokhtar, and Mark Strachan and Justine Law were sucessful in securing funding from Changing Minds (granted by the ASB Community Trust) to create works over a period of four months. The works included four mixed media peices - a stop motion film, two glass casts, a selection of capes, and a interactive scarf. The exhibition titled 'Mental Blocks' was created with the hope of challenging peoples ideas about mental health, addictions and homelessness, by exhibiting the experiences via art of five people who had personally experienced this. The Changing Minds mission is "Leading Brave Conversations to Redefine Mental Health and Addictions in Aotearoa", the Mental Blocks exhibition was one way in which we wanted to acheive this.
