China's homemade, solar-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), designed by China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics, has opened a new chapter in China's aerospace exploration by successfully completing its maiden flight in Dunhuang City in northwest China's Gansu Province.
The solar-powered UAV, with a wingspan of more than 40 meters, is a long-endurance, high-altitude aircraft that has broad application potential. Compared to chemical-fuel aircraft, the solar-powered UAV is environmentally friendly.
The UAV overcame complex weather conditions and accomplished all indicative tests in the flight, which has laid a technological base for future, high-altitude test flights. More on: http://newscontent.cctv.com/NewJsp/news.jsp?fileId=290331
