We both chug a standard U.S. 30ml shot of Everclear 95% Alc. By Vol. (190 Proof) Grain Alcohol from a 200ml bottle.
Everclear is the brand name for an unflavored and colorless beverage grade of distilled spirit bottled at two different high strengths, either 151 or 190 proof, meaning 75.5 or 95 percent ethanol, respectively. It is manufactured by Luxco (formerly the David Sherman Company).[1]Everclear is distilled from corn (maize) and nearly identical to fine grade unflavored vodka in taste, although not in strength, as both are very low in congener content, agents which develop during fermentation or are added and lend flavor and color to whiskeys and many other liquors. By its American legal definition, which stipulates a product with minimum alcohol content of 170 proof, only the 190 proof version of Everclear may be designated neutral grain spirit in spite of the fact that both versions are "neutral" in taste, derived from grain and definitely strong in spirit. By contrast, other hard beverages sold in the United States, such as vodka, whiskey and brandy are typically bottled somewhere between 80 and 120 proof, containing 40 to 60 percent alcohol. However, some rums are sold in the United States at 151 proof, for instance, Bacardi 151.
Concentrations of 95.6 percent ethanol and 4.4 percent water form an azeotrope such that simple distillation cannot remove any of the remaining water. Consequently, 190-proof spirits are the maximum available from the distilled beverage industry. In 1979, the Guinness Book of World Records listed 190-proof Everclear as "the most alcoholic drink."
