This is my cnc router with a dust collection system using an Oneida Dust Deputy dust separator and a Shop Vac vacuum. That little shop vac really produces a good suction. I'm very happy with the performance of this vac system. Virtually no dust makes it to the Shop Vac.
The dust collection box is constructed of 1/2" birch plywood and the volume is just a little less than a 5 gal bucket. Emptying the box allows the Dust Deputy and all the hoses to remain unaffected. I loosen up 6 bolts on the top and the box slides out on rails. The rails simplify the re-installation of the box. I don't have to hold the box while tightening the bolts. I am using some gasket material (from Home Depot) attached to the underside of the 3/4" plywood that the Dust Deputy is attached.
Here is a link to the Shop Vac.

I wired an extension cord with a switch to control the Shop Vac. This makes it really convenient for turning it on and off from next to the computer.
