August nights are cold here in southeast Idaho and being off grid means we can't just turn on the thermostat at night. Usually we leave the windows open to hold onto the cold for later in the day. When temps fall out of the 70's in the day we can't do that anymore and need to get our heat source up and running. This is the first look we have had inside the rocket mass heater since we stopped using it and we want to see if we had any creosote buildup or breakdown of the aircrete heat riser. The trick has been the aircrete double wall chimney. The perfection of the heat in our house is amazing....we are never to hot or too cold and I can hatch baby ducklings, dry fruit, or bake bread all on the same tool.
