I built this LED cube based on the design described in http://www.instructables.com/id/Led-Cube-8x8x8/ .. After several months of sometimes (perhaps even often) frustrating effort, and several board revisions, I finally managed to produce a printed circuit board using surface mount components that could drive the cube and still perform all of the original functions.
The video shows the completed cube with first a few built-in patterns, followed by the more complicated patterns provided through the serial interface.
