Every Sunday during the season, which runs from November through April, the Coney Island Polar Bears meet to bathe at 1:00 PM . The club has been around in one form or another since 1903. It is growing in popularity. This first blizzard dip of the 2010-2011 season (water temp upper 30's) is taking place a little less than a week before the highly publicized New Year's Day swim which may attract thousands. Notice how the more experienced winter bathers go in at a pretty relaxed pace compared to the mad rush of newbies that one witnesses every New Year's Day. One adapts to winter bathing and the more relaxed one's approach to it is, the more one gets out of it. It is cleansing both for the body and the soul. Amazingly, only a subway ride away from the heart of NYC!
