Crash Ensemble is Ireland's foremost contemporary music ensemble; a group of world--class musicians who play the most adventurous, groundbreaking new music of today.
The programme will include the world premiere of the ensemble's latest work dimmerswitch by Daniel Figgis ("world-beating, marvelous, hyperintelligent", Hot Press), new work by Nico Muhly ("the hottest composer on the planet", The Telegraph) and the title track from the Ensemble's internationally acclaimed 2011 album Grá agus Bás (5 stars, The Guardian) composed by ensemble director and Misterman composer Donnacha Dennehy, featuring sean--nós singer Iarla Ó'Lionáird.
In this video created by GAF TV, Crash Ensemble perform American composer Nico Muhly's "Drones, Variations and Ornaments" at St. Nicholas' Church Galway. Drones, Variations, Ornaments is music in constant transformation. What begins as a simple, cloud-like sequence of string chords with a trombone melody slowly transforms into an agitated perpetual motion machine of winds, guitar, percussion, and piano.
