SAFETY FIRST! Before trying this board customization at home, ALWAYS USE PROPER EYE and FACE PROTECTION!
Materials Used to create this design:
- Acrylic Artist's Paint
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Paintbrushes
- Painter's tape
- Newspaper
- Acrylic spray paint
- Acrylic gloss clear coat
TIPS: Be sure the board is clean, otherwise the paint won't stick.
The paint needs to be fairly wet. Paint that is straight out of the tube or container will be thick and have little reaction with the alcohol. So wet you brush and mix it with the paint first. You might want to practice with the amount of water to use. The wetter it is, the more dramatic the affect with the alcohol, but really watery paint may not be the look you are going for.
You can also work the alcohol (with the brush) into the paint to change the affect or make it more dramatic, which is what we did in this video. Just dip the brush in the alcohol and dab it on the paint to change the look.
If you don't want the whole board painted, you can fade the paint into the clear of the board. First, clean the paint off the brush, then use the alcohol to fade the wet paint that is on the board. Clean excess paint off the brush as need be and continue to work the fade. It turns out really cool when you do this.
Also, if you make a mistake or something doesn't look right, just wet a rag with alcohol and wipe off the paint.
Be sure to protect your design with gloss acrylic clear coat.
