This was a journey of contrasts as we cycled across central and southern Georgia through the lesser Caucasus. In the spirit of meeting as many local people as possible we decided not to fly our bikes to Georgia, but to try and by a couple cheaply when we got there.
Our mostly spontaneous route took us from Tbilisi to Batumi on the Black Sea via Gori ( birhplace of Stalin) , Borjomi (Ski resort), Bakuriani (Big hill), Akhalkalake(Mostly Armenian town), Akhaltsike, and Gorderzis(bigger hill) - as well as very many small villages, meeting and eating freshly caught trout with welcoming locals along the way.
After 14 days on the roads and hilly tracks, we arrived in Batumi where we sold our rattly old bikes and got a bus (car) back to Tbilisi Airport to fly back to our respective homes in England and Australia.
Georgians are a happy, hospitable and very generous people who seem to all be knitted together like a giant family. I hope they never change.
Another great unplanned adventure with many great memories to keep.
