A powerful Kona storm brought damaging winds to the island of Oahu on the evening of January 2, 2015. I travelled over to Kailua, which experiences particularly strong winds during Kona storms due to the nearby mountains.
The strongest wind gusts in my location were probably around 60mph. Dozens of trees were uprooted and the sky was ignited many times by exploding transmission towers and distant lightning.
