Historic very late-season blizzard "Stella" is expected to hit the East Coast tonight and into Tuesday. 24-hour snowfall will start on March 14th, 2017 at around 12 AM. The National Weather Service expects 8 to 12 inches in Philadelphia, 16 to 20 inches in New York City and 14 to 18 inches in Boston. Even during the heart of winter, these totals would disrupt travel and lead to school closures. But such amounts this late in the season could make this snow storm something truly special.
New York city bus and subway (above ground) services will be closed on March 14th. More than 5000 flights have been canceled, schools are now closed. Power outages may occur.
States of emergency declared in New York and New Jersey.
