I saw this on kickstarter the other day and figure out I can probably build my own. Let’s see how it goes.
I start by tracing the outline of my pillow in paper,
And made some guides for the metal structure within.
I’m going to use copper pipes for this, I just need to figure out the length of each segment.
I need to build two of this structures, this means 4 long segments and 2 short ones, as well as 8 elbow joints.
We are ready to assemble and reinforce with some duct tape, this should work. Now I hit the elbows with a hammer to create a flat side, you will see why in a second. Drill some holes on the flat sides and insert a screw and a butterfly nut.
The structure is ready and we can work on the pillow now.
We use the same outline we created before to trace on foam, I found this in the trash. I cut the foam and made some adjustments so the metal structure can fit on it.
To cover all this up, I trace the same outline in fabric and a slightly bigger outline around it, this is where I will glue the velcro.
I cut the fabric and glue tiny pieces of velcro all around it using fabric glue. Then I cut a long strip of fabric for the sides of the pillow and glued long strips of velcro on both sides.
Attach the long strip around the pillow, it should look kind of like this.
Repeat and try to do it better this time.
Now I need to work on the straps.
Use a hot piece of metal to bond the strap to itself and create some loops around the metal structure.
I then tried to imitate a backpack strap system, not sure how but in the end I kind of got it right.
That’s it, you own (kickstarter name)
Lets try it out.
it is actually very comfortable! Welcome to sleeping class indeed!
