Your body is a protein-producing machine. Muscle cells make muscle proteins called Actin and Myosin. Skin cells make skin proteins called Collagen and Elastin. Your immune cells make immune proteins called Antibodies. Your thyroid cells make thyroid proteins called Thyroxin. Your eye cells make eye proteins called Chorantin. And proteins are responsible for the structure and function of your body.
Now, in order for your body to make a protein, a gene has to be regulated or signaled. You still with me? So, when they mapped the Human Genome, they said well, the body is made up of a 100,000 proteins and it takes about 40,000 proteins to make this 100,000 proteins, so there should be 140,000 genes for a 140,000 proteins. Does that make sense? A gene for every protein.
Well, when they mapped the human genome, they found out that there were about 23,688 genes.That you express 1.5% of your DNA. Out of that 1.5% of your DNA that you express, you're about 98% chimpanzee, 70% rat (some more than others but, 70%), and that genes are like Christmas tree lights. They turn on and off. And that in one gene in your body, there can be 35,000 different expressions of that gene. So all of a sudden now it's combinations of how genes work and that genes don't create disease. Less than 5% of the people on the planet are born with a genetic condition. The other 95% comes from lifestyle behaviors, and choices.
So if you think 60-70,000 thoughts in one day, and out of those 60-70,000 thoughts that you think in one day, 90% of those thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before, then the same thoughts will always lead to the same choices. The same choices always lead to the same behaviors, same behaviors create the same experiences, the same experiences produce the same emotions, and those emotions drive your very same thoughts, and your biology, your neurocircuitry, your neurohormones, your neurotransmitters, even your genetic expression is equal to how you think, how you act and how you feel.
So, if you are not doing anything differently, making any new choices, creating any new experiences, or embracing any new emotions, you are headed for a genetic destiny. Now, it's not like you did anything wrong, but the cells are craving information. And the signal that comes from outside of the cell begins to select the gene and instruct the gene in different ways to make different proteins. How many people are with me?
So then, if we're thinking certain thoughts and those thoughts turn on a set of circuits in your brain to produce a level of mind, and another part of the brain begins to make a chemical for you to begin to feel the way you were just thinking, the moment you feel just the way you think, you begin to think the way you feel, which makes more chemicals for you to feel the way you think and think the way you feel. And the redundancy of this cycle of thinking and feeling conditions the body to become the mind. And as we said in the discussion yesterday, 95% of who you are is a set of memorized behaviors, emotional reactions, beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes that function just like a subconscious computer program.
Remember the doorknob example? Or you can't remember your PIN number because you just had three glasses of wine and you can't remember, then all of a sudden your fingers do that? Well, how do you do that? You've practiced it so many times that your body knows better in your brain. That's 95% of who we are. And so as we think and feel in certain cycles over time. It's the same emotional states that keep sending the same signal to the cell, and the cell is headed for a genetic destiny.
