Future Giant Telescopes: Bringing the Universe into Focus with Dr. Sarah Kendrew.
Astronomical Australian Observatory (AAO) and UNSW Physics Present:
As our exploration of the cosmos continues apace, the observatories of the future in space and on the ground will cast light on some of the biggest scientific questions we face today: how the Universe came into being, how it evolved into its present state, and whethere life could exisit on other planets. Dr. Sarah Kendrew will introduce you to the scientific and technoloigcal marvel of astronomy's new generation of telescopes that will revolutionse our view of the Universe in the next decade.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Sarah Kendrew is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Astronomy Instrumentation in Oxford University's Astrophysics group. She also holds a Junior Research Fellow position at St Cross College, Oxford. Sarah was awarded a PhD from University College London in 2006 and she has held research positions at University of Leiden, Netherlands and the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Germany.
Dr. Sarah Kendrew is advocate in Community and Outreach activities and as well as a founder of the .Astronomy conference series (http://dotastronomy.com/events/seven/) being held in Sydney this week.
