Image processing is one of the most computationally expensive task on a mobile device -- it's also a very popular one, as more and more users want the ability to create engaging content straight out of their phone or tablet. More so than other platforms, mobile processing need to take in account various constraints such as battery life, memory usage, cohabitation with the system and other applications, and the need to work on widely different architectures. This session will focus on some of the technologies available on Android to achieve those goals, in particular Renderscript, native code and OpenGL. The architecture of the Android 4.3 photo editor will be used as a backdrop, describing a dynamic processing pipeline implementing non-destructive editing and full-size image processing.
