As in Final Fantasy IX, Zidane is witty and courageous, always stepping in to help the other heroes when he can and not being afraid no matter his opponent. However, these are his outward actions; Zidane actually harbors many doubts as to his adventure, but conceals them behind his friendly exterior. Zidane feels a duty to find and protect Bartz after Bartz is abducted, and worries for his friends when he can't be there for him, blaming himself for leaving them alone. With Cosmos' guidance, Zidane learns to not place the burden on himself and trust in them to fight to find him again just as he did for Bartz.
Zidane is also a very flirtatious womanizer. In both games, Zidane expresses interest in most women of the cast, including Cosmos herself. He also makes jokes about winning dates from them and not being enthusiastic about fighting them.
