Historic Floyd bennett field was NYC's first municipal airport. It has tons of historical history. Amelia Earhart, wrong way Corrigan, Wiley Post, Howard Hughes, Charles Lindberg all flew out of this airport to complete their historical journeys. It served as a military base after JFK took over as NYC's municipal airport. It's no longer used as an airport. It is now part of the Gateway national recreation area and is now home to NYPD air, DSNY sanitation, the aviator complex that has a hockey rink and plane restoration projects. It's filled with a lot of history.
