If you have a computer in the same room as your guitar amps, or a gigging musician, you're going to want to watch this video. Thank you Snartzz B (subscriber) for pointing out this model of Furman power conditioner. There are four segments to the video. The third segment was very interesting because you get to hear the amplified RFI (radio frequency) and EMI (electromagnetic) interference (5:47). I was really surprised when I plugged the computer into the Furman along with my amps and it actually amplified the interference. Lesson learned. Just plug everything you want to shield from the interference into the Furman and keep your computer plugged into the wall.
RFI and EMI are like parasitic waves riding on top of your pristine guitar signal. It is a very bad sounding distortion (5:47) that you would normally not notice until you remove it. It took me years to realize that my computer was destroying my tone. This is the best $54 investment I have made in a long time.
FINAL VERDICT: In the first segment, I think I still heard a slight artifact of interference so I felt that it was reducing the interference but not completely eliminating it. In the last segment, I could not hear a difference in interference between having the computer on or off. I'm not sure why it seemed to remove more interference but it could have something to do with plugging in everything else in the room except the computer into the Furman.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the results and had a great jam session afterwards with really clear notes and better sustain. It makes that much difference. I can see how this would be an absolute must for the gigging musician to block all of those bad frequencies that you encounter when playing next to a bunch of neon or fluorescent lights.
I wish I would have done this experiment without the sputtering vintage Fender reverb unit but I really didn't want to do it again.
