Minecraft was released as a New 3DS exclusive. Instead of explaining why it's only for the N3DS, just watch the video and see for yourself why Old 3DS users won't get to enjoy the same experience.
I am aware that the N3DS also has twice the amount of CPU cores (4 vs 2), more RAM (256MB vs 128MB), and more VRAM (10MB vs 6MB) that would lead to much better performance in this video than what an Old 3DS would actually get. The game is designed to only launch with 4 cores, so it would not even boot with 2. The Old 3DS would perform a lot worse than this (if it was even able to boot), so take this as the best case scenario. Cut the framerate in half and add some stutter here and there, and that's how an Old 3DS would run it.
