On tonight's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the newest iteration of the Gears of War franchise was unveiled, as Epic designer Cliff Bleszinski showed off Gears of War 3 for the first time.
Epic Games' Design Director Cliff Bleszinski confirmed early Tuesday morning on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon that Gears of War 3 is indeed in development and is slated to release around April 8, 2011.
"It's about the worst kept secret in the video game industry," Bleszinski said jokingly to the audience before showing the premiere trailer for the much anticipated third-person shooter.
The video, titled "Ashes to Ashes," opened with the soft, but dramatic tune Heron Blue by Sun Kil Moon and segued into footage of ruins and wreckage, followed by gunfire and carnage, and ending with Marcus and company making what looks like one final last stand against some massive three armed Locust monster.
In addition to debuting the game's first trailer, Bleszinski said there will be some new weapons, like a double barrel shotgun, as well as female soldiers, which is a first for the series.
Gears 3 will pick up where the story left off at the end of Gears 2, with humanity's survival in the war against the Locust hanging by a thread.
