Our household uses a significant number of alkaline batteries. Sometimes you just need to know whether a battery is good or dead (I get new ones mixed up with old ones all the time).
Rather than using a dedicated battery tester or testing the batteries in a device just use the "Newtonian Battery Test". As long a you have a hard, flat service and gravity is working that day, you can separate good from bad.
