Watch as Ben Minutoli, of Geelong Cable Locations, goes through and performs a full locate at a customer's property.
Ben takes you through each step of the process he carries out on site and explains what methods he uses to locate each particular underground utility and why he uses that method for the buried pipe or cable he’s trying to find.
The recording was completed live at a real customer's property—so, as you’ll see, not everything goes to plan and there are some utilities he has difficulties locating.
But it’s probably a good job to have filmed, as it does highlight the truth about cable locating: that we can’t always locate every single service on every job site we work at. A lot of it is out of our hands as it depends a lot on what material the utilities are made out of and the site conditions they’re buried in. (As well as a range of other factors that we won't go into here.)
And of course, the other advantage to recording a job like this, where some services are harder to locate than others, is that you get to see first hand the range of different equipment we bring out to each and every site where we work. You can see the techniques we use with them to locate the different underground services.
If you have any questions about a particular technique or equipment that we used on the site, then feel free to contact Ben through the office on 1800 449 543.
Or if you’d just like to leave a general comment or have a bit of a discussion, then feel free to leave a comment below and Ben or one of us will respond back to you when we’re next free.
