Operating within Northern New Mexico and in the heart of the region's rich weaving history, the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center team has undertaken numerous initiatives to grow the demand for local wool, to improve weavers' skills and to increase and diversify textile weaving. HERITAGE BLANKETS NEW MEXICO has started in 2012 as a project with substantial funding provided by the Santa Fe Community Foundation and a generous donation from Bread for the Journey. HERITAGE BLANKETS NEW MEXICO aims to sustain weaving skills and increase appreciation of hand-woven textiles, while offering an income source from weaving in the community as well as the shepherds whose flocks produce heritage Navajo-Churro wool.
