The World’s First Cloud-Integrated, Microwaveable Notebook
Introducing Rocketbook – a combination special notebook and mobile app. It’s a notebook that lets you write notes or sketch designs using regular pen and paper. Then, before you can say “Once upon a time,” the app blasts your words or pictures into the digital ether. Using patent-pending image capturing technology, the Rocketbook app is able to accurately and quickly convert your handwritten notes and drawings into digital images, and then send them to designated Cloud locations—such as Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, OneNote, or your email address.
Crop-Saving Drones for the Win
Thanks to a chunk of funds from MIT, startup RaptorMaps is planning to get crop-mapping drones into the air this summer to better track their health and give farmers' harvests a boost. The RaptorMaps system is able to find unhealthy crops using data analytics. RaptorMaps actually won the funding through an MIT-sponsored competition that invites students to submit business ideas along with how they plan to turn the idea into a real-world product. The drones are designed to fly over farms snapping multispectral images.
Pick-Pockets Beware: Introducing the SmartWallet
If someone tries to steal the SmartWallet from your pocket, within one second it will warn you by beeping loudly, taking the thief by surprise. SafeWallet comes with a mobile app, so whether your wallet is being picked up by a stranger or you accidentally forget it before you leave the house, your phone will beep and let you know. Let’s say your wallet is nowhere to be found because it fell between the couch cushions: you can utilize the mobile app to make your wallet ring, locating it as far as ten meters away. SmartWallet also recognizes you, its owner, so if you open it or take it out of your bag, it won’t make a sound.
A Game-Changer for Wearable Electronics
Researchers have transferred monolayer graphene to fibers commonly used in the textile industry. The transparent, flexible material could potentially be used to create embedded wearable electronics, such as phones and fitness trackers. Graphene is strong and flexible, but in this case more importantly, it's also the thinnest substance capable of conducting electricity, giving it huge potential for use in smart clothing. The team worked with monolayer graphene – a material grown using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) onto copper foil using a nonoCVD system. The team believes their research could play a major role in further developong the industry, by incorportating it into wearable electronics devices.
