Friends, today in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Drone Racing.
Drone Racing is an air sport that involves competitors racing with their specially built multi-rotor drones around a natural or specifically designed course.
The flying of drones was initially done as a recreational activity by a few enthusiasts but with time it gained extreme popularity and turned into a competitive sport.
Although Drone Racing does not fit in the definition of a real sport as it lacks physical human activity, it is an extremely exciting competitive contest.
The objective of the game is to finish the entire obstacle course in the shortest duration of time.
Drone racing is a contest where participants compete against each other either individually or in teams with their own drones.
All drones must be radio-controlled and equipped with cameras to be able to qualify as radio drones.
Modern drone racing competitions are conducted as first person view races.
Pilots are required to control the drones using handheld controllers.
All pilots wear specialized goggles that project the video feeds from the drone's camera.
Drone racing competitions are done in three major formats, individual time trial, team time trial, freestyle tricks.
In individual time trials, pilots are required to complete a course individually against a clock.
In the team time trials, pilots compete in teams to finish the course in the fastest time.
In freestyle tricks, the aim is to execute various tricks using drones.
The courses are either natural or man-made with obstacles in them.
In time trials, the team or individual that finished first is declared as the winner.
In freestyle tricks, the individual with the best execution of skills is declared the winner.
