This video is sped up because my IRIS+ drone ascends and descends very slowly. I've been trying to change the behavior of my drone via Mission Planner but no success yet. The actual video length is more like 8 minutes.
I disabled the GeoFence on my IRIS+ drone via Mission Planner since Mission Planner limits how far and how high my drone can go. I put a fresh battery in my drone then checked flightradar24.com to make sure the sky would be clear of aircraft then up I went.
The altitude is displayed on my controller in meters. By default, the GeoFence specifies 100 meters as the max altitude. If the drone reaches 100 meters, it changes to auto-land mode and begins to descend. This time it kept going when it hit 100 meters and 200 meters.
An alarm on my controller started sounding about 250 meters. I thought the alarm meant my controller batteries were low so I brought the drone down but the alarm stopped so then I realized it was my loss-of-signal alarm. That alarm is triggered when the defined signal strength threshold is reached. It seems the alarm is triggered at 50% signal strength.
What I can do next time is ignore the alarm but make sure I've got the default behavior set to return-to-launch and auto-land if the drone loses contact with the controller. I had it on GPS loiter so it would not drift from the wind. Fighting the wind drains the battery so next time I'll disable GPS loiter. It will drift but it will return to launch and auto-land.
I did not use a gimbal to save weight.
I only reached about 250 meters. In order to go above the clouds, I need to go around 1000 meters high.
For some strange reason, it was having trouble ascending after I came down, which is why I crashed into the grass.
