http://facebook.com/coachlana How to Be a Great Fitness Instructor & Build Your Classes: How to Become a Fitness Instructor
Hello I'm Coach Lana. I'm a group exercise instructor and fitness industry expert. I've been working in the fitness industry since 1999 and I'm going to give you a few of the basics on how to be a great group exercise instructor. (Group fitness instructor, aerobics instructor)
It's not about you. I hope you are not becoming a group exercise instructor to get a free workout. I pray you are becoming a fitness instructor to help other people get fit and healthy.
Look the part. I'll get deeper into this in another video, so subscribe and stay tuned. Do at least the basics. Treat teaching like you are going to work because you are. Neat clean outfit, hair and makeup if applicable done. Don't roll out of bed and show up frazzled to teach a class. You are a professional, act like one.
Connect with the members, students. Show up early and stay late. I know you have lives, so I'm not saying spend all your time at the gym. But, it's industry practice for aerobics instructors to show up 15 minutes before class and stay around 15 after to connect with members and help them. That is why you are there, for the students. It allows you time to connect with them and this eventually builds your class.
Smile and be enthusiastic. This is the most important point and will be covered in more detail in another video, so yes, subscribe and stay tuned. Members don't want to look at a frown for a whole class. You should shine brighter and have more energy than everyone in the room. You are the leader. Stand tall and cheer up the room.
